On February 2, 1994, a team of volunteers created a non-profitable
organization named "Soroka Marseilles Association".
The team decided to follow particularly the two units most in need :
-
The Investigative Dermatology Laboratory
-
The skin bank
The lab works for :
-
The severely burnt unit
-
The Plastic Surgery Department and Clinic
-
The Dermatology Department and Clinic
-
The Orthopedic Department
-
The Diabetes Clinic
Dynamic volunteers
Soroka Marseilles, reckons today (july 1997) with about 700 sympathizers,
of whom 20% members. This association has attained and probably overstepped
its aims, thanks to more and more memberships, donation of generous benefactors,
other various partnerships, and also well attended meetings, and activities
(dinners, bingos, junk sales outings, lectures and cultural events) at
a rate of once a month.
No administrative fees
The running expenses of Soroka Marseilles are very limited :
-
No local, therefore no rent
-
Phonecalls dependent on each staff member
-
Other expenses (photocopies, postages, advertising ...) are mainly dependent
on friends.
So, all of the resources are reserved to the hospital .
Whenever Soroka Marseilles has collected a certain sum, Dr
Nili Grossman head of the laboratory and skin bank is informed, and
send a pro forma invoice corresponding to an instrument she needs urgently.
Then the treasurer of the association orders a bank transfer of the
proforma amount.
When the hospital receives the instruments, a definitive invoice is
sent to Marseilles.
So Soroka Marseilles has been able to donate Soroka Hospital :
-
One carbonic dioxide incubator for culture of tissues for transplantation.
-
One personal computer with Software
-
One inverted microscope with incorporated camera for analysis and photography
of cultivated tissues.
-
One cryogenic storage system for the conservation of tissues.
-
One electrophoresis system
-
Very modern and perfected optical accessories for the microscope making
for extended use of the micorscope during culture growth.
-
One dual-use analytical microbalance
-
A complete system of microplate washer and analytical microplate reader.
(commemorating Dr. Victor Msika).
A generous benefactress, herself handicapped has bought and offered to
the Institute of Physiotherapy at Soroka Medical Center :
-
A "moving pavement"
-
One "stepper kilimanjars" to go up the stairs
-
One "cardio master"
Soroka Medical Center of Beer Sheva had the tactful consideration to affix
a small plaque on each instrument "donated by Soroka Marseilles". Two larger
plaques commemorate Ms. Gisèle Ankri and Victor Msika.
